Indonesia
How are you T? i hope you're well. been a while since i've heard from you? the weather is abit crazy at the moment, wavering between scorching heat of 36Âșc to torrents of rain.
happy belated easter to you! i dont celebrate it as im buddhist but it's a public holiday on good friday for everyone. i took a long weekend including wed and thu and went to indonesia to do some trekking and to check out the ancient wonder of the world, Borobudur in indonesia.
I was going to attempt a trek on gunung merapi an active volcano but for safety reasons as it was spewing lava, smoke and debri, people were advised not to make the trek. the volcano is active all year round and tourists make trips out to see the lava flowing down the sides. would have been amazing if i had the opportunity to see that.
yogakarta is a paradoxical city. it's charming in its own gritty way, but slightly frightening with no tourists in sight, poor infraastructure and persistent locals forcing you to buy things. u are not left alone for one second and while you dine, the waiter sits at your table and watches you eat. it's all very bizarre and abit of a culture shock, but in exchange so much gorgeous nature untouched by man and undiscovered by many.
all in all, it was a great trip, and a humbling experience.
here's borobudur, the fabled ancient wonder
